  • Q:I am an external/internal advisory board member. How can I keep track of what's going on?
  • A: Once you login, you will be able to access the CTRnet team meeting notes (under "Files").
     

  • Q: I have several CTR-related files that I want to contribute. How can I do this?
  • A: Currently there is no way to do this through the website, but we will have this going forward. In the meantime, please contact Venkat and we can work something out. If however you only have a handful of files to contribute, please consider uploading it here.
     

  • Q: I want to contribute resources to the website, but I do not own them. Is that OK?
  • A: If you do not own the copyright, please contribute only the URLs, and other metadata (tags, thumbnails etc.) if available.
     

  • Q: I have uploaded several files to the website, but I don't see them anywhere.
  • A: We are working on adding much more functionality to the website. Once we have things working, you will be able to see the resources you contributed.
     

  • Q: I have pointers to several CTR-related resources (books, scholarly articles etc.). How can I get them to you?
  • A: You can do that here.
     

  • Q: Is there a mailing list for this project?
  • A: There are several. Please send a mail to Venkat Srinivasan or Ed Fox if you would like to be added.
     

  • Q: Are you looking for any more collaborations on this project?
  • A: Absolutely. The project is still evolving, and we are actively looking for people with various expertise. We are especially interested in collaborating with groups from foreign countries that can help us with collecting data related to various crises and tragedies in their home countries.
     

  • Q: What kinds of data are you analyzing?
  • A: We are analyzing data from News, Web 2.0, various Organizations (UN, Red Cross etc.), and Scholarly publications.
     

  • Q: How are you going to collect all this data?
  • A: We are working with Internet Archive and will be using their crawlers to collect the data.
     

  • Q: What data analysis techniques are you looking at using?
  • A: Mostly from Computer Science (Data and Text Mining, Information Visualization, Social Network Analysis etc.)
     

  • Q: There are several projects dealing with analysis of data from the domain of crises and tragedies. What's unique about this project?
  • A: Scope and the methods. We are not only looking at covering many different kinds of crises and tragedies individually, but also taking a holistic view of things. For example, we try to see if there are any existing commonalities among different crises, and if lessons learned from one can be used to prevent crises of another kind.
